Crisis and Grief Counseling Services

Volunteers are available to provide crisis and grief counseling to the community affected by the earthquake in Haiti here at the Embassy on limited bases. Crisis Counselors from various organizations in the Washington DC area are available to talk and refer people to services in the greater DC, Maryland and Virginia areas. In addition crisis counselors through the DC Department of Mental Health, The Church of Scientology and individual counselors are participating and provided services at committee events and on a limited basis on site. The following resources are available for those seeking counseling resources in the DC/MD/VA areas. These 24-hour, seven-day-a-week telephone lines are staffed by mental health professionals who can refer a caller to immediate help or ongoing care. Examples of crisis response include: On site response to schools, agencies and other institutions following violence, trauma or death of staff, students or others. Support for first responders dealing with the vicarious trauma and other sequelae generated from their work. Consultation to schools, hospitals and other institutions to design, education and develop programs in anticipation of traumatic events.
